Alphabet Fun

Teacher:  Leslie Schroeder

Age:  3-5

Material fee: $ 30 per session

Supplies:  A good attitude

Description: Come and have fun making friends and learning the alphabet! We will begin our class with circle time-focusing on days of the week, months of the year and seasons. Each week we will focus on a letter of the alphabet and have show and tell based on the letter of the week.

This class runs first and second hours.

Homework: Bring alphabet show and tell to class each week

Parental Commitment: Sign up to bring a healthy snack

Beginning Writing

Teacher:  Tina Sherwood

Age:  6-8

Material fee:  $20 per session

Supplies: 3 ring binder

Description:  Starting at the super-beginner level, students will learn to express themselves and communicate with    others in writing, building a solid foundation for all future writing.  We will take it very slowly and build up as the year goes on.  By the end of the year, students will have a portfolio filled with all the projects they have completed.

Homework: Less than 30 minutes per week

Parental commitment:  Hold your student accountable for completing homework assignments

Story of the World

Teacher:  Becky Pemble

Age:  8-11

Material fee:  $35 per session

Supplies: Colored pencils, crayons, glue,  scissors

Description: This course covers major historical events around the world during the years 1500-1850.  We begin with the Holy Roman Empire and will end with the California Gold Rush.  Map work and projects will help reinforce the lesson learned.

Homework: 1 hour per week review and write 2-3 sentences on lesson to be turned in the next week.

Parental Commitment:  Help your child with homework, if needed.

DescriptionThis is an inductive study/discussion based on the following topics: Lord, Where Are You When Bad Things Happens - a friend dies in a car wreck. Why did God allow it to happen?  This is an eleven week study on the book of Habakkuk. How to Handle Peer Pressure - a four part study from the book of Joshua.  Lord, Look At Our World, What Are You Saying – an eleven week series in Revelation that will help teenagers see history unfolding to fulfill prophecy.  Teens clearly hear God’s wake-up call for personal holiness.

Homework:   complete lessons each week

Physical Education

Description:  We will focus on physical fitness this year, using games and activities that will stretch you physically.  We will also be doing the President’s Fitness Challenge.

Description: Learn basic music theory while singing, playing musical instruments, (including hand bells), also fun games and interactive experiences.  We hope to perform several times during the year.

Language Lessons

Age:  6-8

Prerequisite: Ability to follow directions

Material fee: $12 per semester

DescriptionWe will learn rules, usage, and beginning writing skills by using memory work, copying & dictation, narration, and grammar.  We will be using the book First Language Lessons by Jessie Wise.

Homework:   15 minutes per week

Parental Commitment:  Review memory work

Physical Education

Teacher:  Charlotte Larson

Age:  8-12

Supplies: Comfortable athletic clothing and tennis shoes

Material fee:  $15 per session   

Description: This class is an introduction to basic physical fitness, team sports, good nutrition, and being good stewards of our bodies.  Students will also be participating in the President’s Physical Fitness Challenge.  My hope is that each student will be encouraged by other students and will have the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work.

Writer's Workshop

Teacher:  Tina Sherwood

Age:  12 and up

Material fee:  $50 first session (to purchase student text) $15 second session

Supplies:  pen, pencil, eraser, notebook paper

DescriptionThis year we will use the book How to Write the Novel Way to produce a novel by the end of the school year.  It will be a very challenging class, requiring commitment on the part of each student to be in class and complete their homework.  The reward of a completed novel at the end of the year will be worth it!

Homework:  1-2 hours per week

Parental Commitment: Supervise homework completion and make sure students come to class prepared every week.

Third Hour 11:10-12:10

Mini PE

Teachers: Jenna Cayo and Julia Heliker

Ages: 3-5

Material Fee: $15 per session

Supplies: Loose fitting clothes that allow your child to freely move

Description: Mini PE is designed to put those wiggles to good use! We will be doing group and individual exerciese as well as stretching, games, and seasonal activities. Balls, hula hoops, scarves and balloons will be used frequently in this class and we will also focus on developing those fine motor skills by crumpling paper and practicing letters in the air! Come and join us for an hour of fun and games.

Math Fun

Teacher: Kristi Yand

Ages: 6-8

Material Fee: $ 25 per session

Supplies: 3-ring binder, pencils and eraser (all other supplies will be provided)

Description: This course provides a hands-on math experience in which students will learn to appreciate the fun of math through the charming "Mathstart" stories of Stuart J. Murphy. Each class will focus on a different math concept including: addition, subrraction, comparing numbers, measuring, tallying, place value, bar graphs, counting coins, etc.

Homework: One hour per week (optional)

Parental Commitment: Parents will be given optional take-home activities to help reinforce the concepts covered in class

U.S. State by State

Teacher: Jennifer Johnson

Ages: 6-9

Material Fee: $12.00 per session

Supplies: colored pencils, #2 pencils, eraser

Description: Buckle your seatbelt and get ready to take a trek across the United States! Each week students will visit two states and learn important facts along the way. At the end of the year, students will have a beautiful notebook filled with information about our country and they will be able to locate every state.

Homework: Possible 30 minutes each week

Parental Commitment: Oversee and verify that homework assignments are completed

Description: In this class, elementary students will embark on an adventure into all types of writing from the practical to the creative. Classes will focus on the basics giving elementary students the tools to make writing not only pain-free, but fun!

Parental Commitment: Oversee homework and make sure that student is keeping up

K12 Lab

Teacher: Seenie Brown

Ages: 10 and up

Material Fee: $ 5 per session (copying costs for unit tests)

Supplies: Laptop computer and/or school work brought to class each week

Description: This lab will provide both supervision and motivation for students who are using the on-line K12 curriculum. Help will be provided, as needed, in Math, Language Arts (grammar, spelling tests, composition, vocabulary), History, and Science. Seenie is a retired teacher from the South Kitsap School District's Explorer Program where the K12 program is being used.

Homework: As required by parent and child's WAVA (or other) supervisor

Yearbook

Teachers: Deb Kennedy and Lena Mitchell

Ages: 12 and up

Material Fee: $ 20 per session

Supplies: 3-ring binder, pen, paper, laptop computer (if student has access to one)

Description: We will be working on producing the first SRCH yearbook this year! Students will participate in photography, articles, layout & design, and sales. We will also produce a quarterly newsletter, writing articles, advertising events and highlighting different co-op families.

Homework: Complete assigned work from class each week.

US Government

Teacher: David Wilson

Ages: 14-17

Material Fee: $20 per session

Supplies: Pen, paper, class textbook

Description: The US Government provides the framework for the success of our country. We will look at the history behind our government's formation, the inner workings and interplay of the three branches of government, the special circumstances of state and local governements, and current events from this election year.

Homework: 1-2 hours per week

Parental Commitment: Occasional topic assistance and editing of assignments
