Policies & Expectations

Floyd E. Kellam High School
Swimming and Diving Team
Policies and Expectations

Practice attendance policy
Athletes are invited and expected to attend all scheduled practice
times.

Attendance at practice directly relates to swimming in a meet.  Swimmers who
fail to come to three practices without prior approval will be removed from
the roster.

Please note:  We have a number of swimmers who swim on club teams year
round.  These swimmers are required to come to practice at least one time
per week, in addition to participating in meets.  I am very firm about this
rule.  Please see me if you have questions.

Practice Schedule
We are fortunate to be able to use the city recreation centers for practice
and meets.
We swim at both the Princess Anne Recreation Center and the Seatack
Recreation Center.
A monthly calendar is made available to each athlete, and the practice and
meet schedules are posted on the team website:
http://worknotes.com/VA/VirginiaBeach/KellamSwimming/

Every Monday, Athletes will receive a Fridge Sheet that details the
week¡¦s
activities. The Fridge Sheet provides communication between the coach
and
athletes, as well as the coach and parents.  The fridge sheet will also be
posted on the website.

Training Rules
Bring a water bottle to practice each day.
Follow all rules and regulations of the recreation centers.
Follow guidelines for swimming etiquette

Competition Participation Criteria

-     All athletes will ride the bus to the swim/dive meets.
- Athletes may go home with a parent, or drive home with a person
approved by a parent as long as the athlete has filled out the driving
permission form.
- Athletes are expected to stay until the end of the meet for a brief
team meeting.
- Athletes will not use inappropriate language or gestures.
- An athlete will swim the events he/she is placed in for the good of
the team.  The only exception to this requirement will be personal contact
between me and the athlete¡¦s year round coach or parent in regard to
medical
situations, which would indicate some problem.
- Athletes will respect themselves, their team mates, and their coach
- Bring water or Gatorade.  Swim meets are not the time for junk food.
