It is pleasure to be part of the PTA Peninsula District for the first time.
Pam Henefin, has handed over the reigns of District Reflections Chair to me.
Pam has done this job for years and done it so capably. I am grateful for
all her effort and also grateful that she has agreed to help this year...just
not be at the helm. Since I am new to this position, I am not completely up
to speed but I'm getting there.

Here are some quick details for you

Theme: Beauty is...

District Deadline: Monday, December 15th by 4:45pm

Drop off location: Channel 47, Newport News Public Schools, 4 Minton Dr. NN,
23606 (receptionist there will collect entries)

You will need to back up your Council/Local deadlines accordingly, allowing
enough time for judging and making sure the work is ready to turn over to
me.

The State PTA website has the Reflections handbook. Council chairs will find
everything they need to know there...including some important rule changes.

If there is any way I can help facilitate your efforts or if you have any
questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at the numbers above.

THE TEARS OF INDIFFERENCE

Leighton Thompson – Winner Middle School Peninsula District PTA

Sad, crying eyes gaze through a rusted cage
awaiting the person who will turn life’s page.
A small frightened animal who knows no good
takes time to accept, more time than he should.
I can make a difference by opening my arms,
creating a safe harbor that will never cause harm.

One little girl lost in the halls
surrounded by people who cause her to fall.
Everyone passes and stares and laughs as she cries,
no one takes time to help dry her eyes.
I can make a difference by being a friend,
by taking the time, a hand I will lend.

A poor, homeless boy trying to find his way
full of hope for the upcoming day.
What people take for granted, he savors each thing,
he spends every night wondering what tomorrow may bring.
I can make a difference by learning not to stare
by giving up the things I know I can spare.

The warmth of the Earth increases by day
making the predator animals turn into the prey.
Ice caps are melting and animals are poached
for some little trinket that people approach.
I can make a difference by turning my life “green”
protecting the Earth and her creatures by keeping her clean.

The world is our haven, a safe place, our home,
every living creature should have his freedom to roam.
Be aware of your actions; take pride in your life,
act kind towards others and help with their strife.
We all can make a difference in everything we do
if we sing our own songs all of our dreams will come true!

I Can Make a Difference By......

By Montrelle Green - District Winner Literature

I can make a differene by smiling when it hurts,
By doing my best even when nothig is all it seems to be worth.

I can see a difference when I don't judge before I read,
Don't partronize one person's need,
All the while ignoring my own greed.

I can feel the difference,
When my body aches with pain,
And my voice suffers a strain,
Even when victory we didn't gain.

I am the difference,
Just by loving to be me,
Accepting all of my flaws,
And encouraging others to set themselves free...

From all of the stereotypes and generalizations,
That force us to hate the diffences
Why can't we all put on wise eyes,
And only look at meaningful appearances.

We can make a difference,
By stompting hatred into the ground.
You can make a differeence by being sincere,
No matter who is around.

I can make a difference,
By giving all I have to give.
I'd rather dies giving my al to life,
Than for life not to remember I even lived.

I make a difference.
