Announcements

Welcome to Woodruff Primary School! The boys and girls will love it here.
This is a special place for little children. Here are some things to
remember about Woodruff Primary School...

Traffic Patterns for Car Riders!!!
Lucy P. Edwards will be blocked off in front of WPS during drop-off (7:15 -
7:55 a.m.) and dismissal times (2:00 - 3:00 p.m.). "No through traffic" will
be allowed during these times.
Preschool/Kindergarten Pick-Up: Adults picking up preschoolers and
kindergartners should enter the preschool/kindergarten pick-up area from
Hwy. 146. After picking up your child, you may only make a right turn
back onto Hwy. 146.
First/Second Grader Pick-Up: Adults picking up first and second graders
should enter the first and second grade pick-up area from McEdco Road. After
picking up your child, you may only make a left turn back onto McEdco
Road.

Transportation - Safety of your little ones is our priority.
Car Riders - Always have your car sign when picking up your child in our car
pick-up areas. Otherwise, you will need to pull out of the line, sign a sign-
out sheet, and present identification (driver's license). We will need to
verify that you are on the 'approved list' to pick up that particular child.
(Parents/guardians completed this approved list at registration.) It is
much simpler to keep that sign in your vehicle than to bother with signing
the sheet and presenting identification. Please make sure the sign is
visible until the child is delivered to your car. If you should misplace your
sign or leave it in another vehicle, you may simply request another one.

Bus Riders - Please notify the teacher in writing when the child will have a
change in buses or transportation. We can only make changes based on the
parent's or guardian's directions. Even though they may be accurate, we will
not make changes based on what our young children tell us regarding their
transportation. Only utilize the phone to make changes in extreme
emergencies. There is too great a chance that we will have a missed call or
message when the change is made over the phone. We want your child to get
home safely and securely. We appreciate your help with this.

Bookbags
We do not use rolling bookbags at WPS because of safety issues. Little
children like to swing them as they are rolling them, which causes others to
trip. Our students do not have heavy loads to carry. Therefore, they will
only need to bring bookbags that they can carry on their backs or in their
hands.

Shoes
Shoes with "built-in" wheels are not allowed at WPS because they are not
safe. Tennis shoes are the most appropriate and safest shoe for our little
ones, particularly when they are at recess on the climbing equipment.

Breakfast
Breakfast is served for students in kindergarten through second grades from
7:15 - 7:45 a.m. Children should be able to enter the cafeteria and eat with
other students under the close supervision of teachers and administrators.
We will make sure your children get to the proper classes. Please let us
know if you have a concern about them finding their way from the cafeteria
to the classrooms. Please make arrangements for children to eat at home
until they are comfortable with our breakfast procedures. All students
eating breakfast should come to the cafeteria before going to their
classrooms. Breakfast is served from 7:15-7:45 p.m. Students must be in line
by 7:45 in order to eat breakfast. If a student arrives later than 7:45, he
doesn't have time to enter the serving line, eat breakfast, take his tray to
the scullery, get his bookbag, and arrive in class before 8:00 a.m. All
preschool students should report directly to their classrooms. After taking
attendance, they will travel with their classes to the cafeteria for
breakfast.

Arrival
Student should not arrive at WPS before 7:15 a.m. Cafeteria supervision
begins at 7:15 a.m. It is not safe for students to be in the building
without adult supervision. Some parents arrive in the front circle a little
before that time and sit in the cars with their children until time to enter
the building. Supervision will begin in the cafeteria promptly at 7:15 a.m.

Tardiness
Children should arrive in classrooms by 7:50 a.m. Children are
counted tardy if they are not in their classrooms by 8:00 a.m. Adults who
open car doors will leave the curb at 7:55 in order to arrive in their
classrooms by 8:00 a.m. to begin the instructional day. If you do not see
adults on duty, you will need to walk your child to the lobby for a pass to
class. The preschool and kindergarten drop-off will close at 7:55 a.m. If you
arrive after that time, you will need to use the front drive and walk the
child into the lobby.

Early Dismissals
Please try to avoid early dismissals if at all possible. If you should have
a situation where it does become necessary, please take care of the early
dismissal before 1:45 p.m. After that time, calling children for early
dismissals interferes with the normal "end-of-day" procedures. We appreciate
your help with this, as we want the end of our day to be orderly and safe
for our little ones.

Attendance
Students must be in the classroom a minimum of three hours to be counted
present for the school day (8:00 - 11:00 a.m.). Students must have no more
than 3 tardies or early dismissals for the entire year to receive the WPS
Perfect Attendance Award.
