The following page is dedicated to Kickers and their Kickbike experiences. Sunday, April 10th, 2005 The following write-up was sent to us by Frances Hruska from Mass. U.S.A.
Kickbiking……What a Kick! I first learned about kickbiking on a trip to Finland. Kickbikers assemble in large and avid groups for cross-country kicking. Kickbikes are widely available and an almost common sight. Since I love cross-country skiing, it seemed a perfect warm weather alternative. When I arrived home, I found no place nearby to purchase kickbikes so ordered them from Canada where the service and shipping were efficient and quick. I ordered three kickbikes envisioning afternoons of kicking through town with my children. They have not been as thrilled about kicking with Mom as I’d hoped. Fortunately, my two best friends have been. The three of us kick through the neighborhoods in town and are often the recipients of double takes, quizzical grins, and funny comments. Young children are often heard running and shouting to their moms to come see what they want for their birthday. When encountering kids on scooters, their envious gaze says it all. One of my friends, Jan, is as avid a kicker as I am. We live about a mile apart on the same road. Therefore, on a warm morning, we meet and head into the neighborhood kicking throughout the streets. One day, as I was kicking down to meet Jan, I passed a house with a crowd of about seven teenagers on the front lawn. They were decked out in multiple tattoes, piercings, black attire and black make-up. Feeling a bit vulnerable, I decided to bravely hold my head high and just kick by. Needless to say, as I approached, all of their eyes were on this middle-aged woman scooting down the street. Finally, one of them called out, “Awesome wheels!!!!!” We all laughed and they ended up taking turns trying it out. The kickbike melted away the generational differences as they delighted in the speed and handling of this modern scooter.
Thanks Frances
