- the advantages to riding a Kickbike over a regular bike lies in its simplicity.


-          no chains or derailleurs to retailer your pant legs or to worry about repairs

-          no uncomfortable seat  to have to swing your leg over particularly important for those folks recovering from an injury such as hip or knee surgery

-          the transition from walking to riding is much quicker on a footbike

-          the transition from riding to dismounting is also much quicker on a footbike

-          in terms of calorie expenditure riding a regular bike at about 16km/hr will burn about 450 cal/hr.

-          calories burned on a footbike at about the same speed 16-18km/hr  will burn about 700

-          walking will burn about 325 – 350 cal/hr

-          would like to point out that in my opinion the main goal of any fitness program should not necessarily be calorie consumption but cardio fitness. 

-          One of the big advantages is the kickbike is just so easy to fit into anyones lifestyle and can be ridden year round out doors


- Kickbikes are about 1/2 to 2/3's as fast as a regular bike

- when riding uphill you will need to change your cadence as there are no gears to assist ascending a hill

- Kickbikes are more physically demanding as they encourage the use of about 90% of your muscle mass.


-   kickbikes main advantage over running is in injury reduction.  The forces generated at footstrike when running are about equal to 3 times a persons body weight mainly because the support leg is being asked to not only propel the body forward but also to help keep the body upright or erect.  That ‘s a lot of strain on a single leg hundreds of times during a run or jog.  On a kickbike those forces are off loaded to the other parts of the body – the support leg on the footplate, the arms and shoulders.  So the active leg on a kickbike is not  experiencing the same stresses on the joints or ligaments because it is not also supporting the body while kicking.  Other parts of the body are helping to support your weight while the active leg is kicking.
