Varsity Lettering Policy: To receive a Varsity Letter: 10 points each time you score in a Varsity meet. 7 points for each time you are entered in any event in a Varsity meet. 7 points each time you score in a JV meet. 5 points if you are entered in any event in a JV meet. 10 points for working at a home Varsity of JV meet that they are NOT entered to participate in. 0 points for refusing to enter an event, missing an event or missing a meet. The most points that can be earned is 10 points for a Varsity meet and 7 points for a JV meet. The District meet is calculated into your points also. Points will be adjusted if there is a meet cancellation or any event cancellation due to weather. Total points needed to receive a Varsity letter is 80 POINTS. The following information is intended for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams! Player expectations: Team members are expected to be at every practice and meet. Coach Steigerwald must approve all absences. If a runner has an unexcused absence, they will not run in the next scheduled meet. If a player misses practice for academic intervention, Coach Steigerwald must approve it. Coaches will communicate with parents and team members all necessary in formation in a timely manner. A practice calendar and meet schedule will be provided monthly. There may be times when practice times or locations will change at the last minute. We will always make sure team members have an opportunity to communicate with a parent before initiating any practice time changes. Team members are expected to put their team above their individual wants. Our goal is to win a FAVC CHAMPIONSHIP, Coach Steigerwald will have the final decision on events for each team member. Team members that miss their event due to negligence or refusal to participate, will not be entered in the next scheduled meet. Communication with Parents: Any special needs your son or daughter may have must be shared with Coach Steigerwald as soon as the needs are identified. Medical excuses must be accompanied by a date of return to activity. Any concerns about the program expectations should first be addressed to the head coach. If satisfaction is not gained, then the Athletic Director, the Head coach, and the parent(s) will meet together. We are always willing to sit down and discuss any issue of concern. FEES: Each player must pay the $90.00 required player fee. You may do that at the Parent/Player meeting. Practice attire: Each member should have on appropriate attire. Please refer to the school handbook if there is a question concerning t-shirts or shorts. Team members should dress appropriately for the weather conditions outside. Track is an outside sport-pay attention to the weather! Practice Routine; Practices will start at the specified times. Team members have plenty of time to see the Athletic Trainer and to take care of any problems that may arise during the day. Any team member that is late to warm ups will be required to perform (16) 100m dashes, in addition to their normal workout. These will be run at the end of their practice workout. We want you there and ready to practice each and every day-we can't achieve our goals without discipline. All running workouts will precede field event workouts, followed by weight lifting. Bus Travel/Missed Bus/Meet Attendance: Team members must ride the team bus to and from all meets. Exceptions will only be made if an emergency arises. Parents MUST submit a hand written letter to Coach Steigerwald explaining the emergency. Advance requests for not riding a bus home must be submitted to the Athletic Director at least one week prior to the date of request. Players, who miss the bus to away meets, may not participate. All team members are expected to stay at both home and away meets to support their teammates. There may come a time, when due to injury, we may need a person to substitute into a relay event. Team members are expected to sit together in a general "camp" area. Uniform care: Please wash all uniforms in cold water. Any tears or problems with your uniform should be pointed out to Coach Steigerwald on the day of uniform pickup. Any tears or problems with your uniform that occurs after pickup, is the team members responsibility. Team Rules; Absences from school: If a team member misses school due to illness, they are not to be at practice. If a player violates school rules or policies and is reprimanded to the degree of receiving disciplinary consequences, the team member will receive additional consequences from Coach Steigerwald. This could be additional conditioning, missed events, or exclusion from the team. Team members are to represent themselves in a manner that is complimentary to their parents, coaches, teammates, and their high school. Team members that are assigned duties at home meets are required to fulfill that commitment. Team members will be assigned to hurdle crews and equipment cleanup for all home meets. **Team members that leave a competition site for any reason without a coaches permission,(except for running a perimeter for warmup) will be dismissed from the team.** End of the Season Banquet: At the end of the season, we will have an awards program for all spring sports teams. This is sponsored by the Ross Athletic Boosters. Earned letters, numerals, and All League recognitions will be handed out at this time.
