Who determines the use of Staff Development/Superintendent Days?

Ultimately, the District determines the use of these days. But only after
taking recommendations from your buildings' Professional Development Planning
(PDP)team. These items are then forwarded to the District Development Council
(DDC) which consists of a balance of FCTA representatives and agents of the
District. It is MANDATED(under the auspices of Shared Decision Making
provisions) by the the State Ed. Dept. that teachers are involved in this
process.

Why do we have to do "Staff Development Days" in addition to our school calendar for the 2009-2010 year?

Labor Day is on September 7th in 2009. Your contract has a provision that has
teachers reporting after Labor Day. Your contract also mandates 190 teacher
attendance days. The addition of two Staff Development Days fulfills our
contractual obligation to work 190 days.
