Gene, while in the United States Air Force, learned to dance from an Arthur
Murray instructor at the U.S.O. Club in Pheonix, Arizona in 1951. He
continued to dance and became an assistant teacher and then teacher. He
taught there until 1954.
He was shipped to England in 1954 and taught dancing at the Officer's Club &
the Service Club at Bentwaters Air Force Base until his discharge in 1955.
Upon his return to the USA, he accepted a teaching position with Dale Dance
Studios. He taught for them in New York City and Jersey City. He also
taught teachers training classes for the studio. He remained with Dale
Studios until 1970.
After leaving Dale Studios, he freelanced for several years, teaching
privately & running dance socials in various places.
Gene met Helen in 1983 at a social she was holding at her studio. He began
teaching at the studio and giving dance shows & champagne hour contests with
Helen.
They married in 1984 and continued to run the studio together. They sold the
studio in 1992 and moved to Atlantic City, NJ and began teaching ballroom
privately in homes.
March 1995--Started running social dances and teaching for Seashore Gardens
in Atlantic City, NJ, on a weekly basis.
June 1995-- Started a program sponsored by the City of Atlantic City Health
& Human Services Department on Garden Pier. Their program
consisted of teaching & demonstrating ballroom & line dancing
weekly.
1995-1996---Gene & Helen created original line dances & a new method of
teaching ballroom dancing in a line form.
1996--------Gene & Helen started doing shows for various organizations,
casino shows at Harrah's & The Grand Casino.
1998--------Started teaching ballroom dance classes for the Brigantine
Education & Recreation Department, Brigantine, NJ.
Present-----Gene continues to teach ballroom & Latin dance classes for the
Brigantine CER & also for Somers Point & Ventnor. These are
usually 8 week courses in the fall, winter & spring for the
Adult Education courses.
Gene also teaches weekly classes on Wednesdays at:
