Minutes of Monthly Meeting
September 24, 2009
Call to Order: Tanya Brooks, President, called the meeting to order at 8 pm.
Officer Reports:
1. Approval of Minutes: Dee Maglio, moved, seconded by Tara Makarick to
accept the minutes of the June 10, 2009 meeting as presented. Motion carried.
2. President’s Report: Tanya Brooks reported on various thank you notes
about the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, Teacher Breakfast and scholarship
recipients from Holland and Del Val.
3. Vice President’s Report: No report.
4. Treasurer’s Report: Karen Stavac presented and explained the monthly
report. Dee Maglio moved to accept the report seconded by Susan LaDuca.
Motion carried.
5. Committee Reports:
Teacher Appreciation
The breakfast went well. The Teacher Appreciation Luncheon for the 2009/2010
school year will be on May 25, 2010. First planning meeting will be held in
January.
Family Night
The first Family Night will be held on Friday, October 9th to coincide with
the book fair from 6 – 8 pm. The Haunted Gym will be held on Friday, October
16th. Instead of having an obstacle course this year the gym will be divided
into two sections – one section for games – the other for a movie.
Assemblies
All assemblies for the 2009/2010 school year have been scheduled. Looking
for volunteers to help out at the assemblies. Suggestion was made to have a
Family Math Night for Grades 3 – 5 to possibly be held on February 17th, the
same day as Arithmetickles but at night. Shelley DeMarco was looking to see
if we would possibly increase the Assembly budget by an addition $450 which
would cover this night time event. At this time it has been decided that
Shelley would go back to Mrs. Yard to obtain more information / different
scenario for additional money and this item would be added to the October
agenda.
Box Tops
We were able to raise approximately $2,000 thru Box Tops last year. Gift
card prizes went over well last year. Tanya Brooks moved that we continue
with the gift cards for prizes. All in favor. Also looking at what we could
potentially purchase with acquired money – this will be added to the October
agenda.
Emily DeRosa suggested that we try and collect Sunny D labels. For every 20
we collect, we would be able to select 20 books for classes. Tanya Brooks
moved that we start collecting Sunny D labels. All in favor.
Still continuing with the Coke Rewards and Tyson Project A+ as well.
Will be having a BJ’s membership drive starting on Friday, October 9th at the
Family Night Book Fair. This will run thru October 23rd. For every
membership or renewal the school will receive $5. Also each membership is
for 15 months instead of 12 months.
We were able to receive approximately $3,000 thru Target credit card
purchases.
Will start collecting Capri Sun and Nabisco wrappers. This will need to be
coordinated with the custodial staff. We would receive .02 for each wrapper.
Direct TV – HTS would receive $50 for each renewal for $100 for new
customers. Emily will be giving this information to Mrs. Yard and a code
will need to be obtained.
Suggestion was made to see if a page can be added into the PTO Directory
listing all of these opportunities. Leigh Geissler indicated that she
thought it could be done for this year as the directory is not yet complete.
Book Fair
Pam Wagner will be contacting volunteers for this event. This will take
place the week of October 5th.
Casino Night 2010
This event will be held on Saturday, February 20th at Whispering Pines.
Looking to start obtaining donations from various businesses. Permits are
complete.
Market Day
Looking for volunteers to help out on delivery night. Potential for a pie
fundraiser. Tanya Brooks will be contacting the Band Department to see if
they are interested in doing this fundraiser to help offset some of their
costs for events they will be having. Delivery for this would potentially be
slated for October 28th.
Fundraising
The Kidstuff Coupons books will be available for purchase thru the second
week of October.
Last day to order More Time Moms Calendars will be Thursday, September 24th.
Unfinished Business:
Chairperson Guidelines
Tanya Brooks and Shelley DeMarco will have a meeting with the incoming chairs
to discuss responsibilities and transfer of duties.
Elementary Computer Laptop Cart
Looking to obtain another quote for this equipment so we can purchase. The
Board of Education will contribute towards the Middle School cart.
Community Day
Need to decide if we will have an item to raffle next year. We only made $50
on the iPod raffle this year. Idea for next year was to have karaoke.
Batting Cages
Add to October agenda.
6. New Business:
Teacher Appreciation Supplies
We do not need to purchase a new coffee maker, it was fixed. Need to
purchase a carafe for the breakfasts and luncheons. Research on sizes and
prices will be done and presented at the October meeting.
