Granite Quarry Elementary School PTA
01-15-09

The meeting was called to order by Joanne Porter.

In attendance:
Joanne Porter – President Sandy Powell – Teacher representative
Melissa Robbins - Vice President Wendy Miller – Community relations
Brenda Byrd – Secretary Sharon Smith - Hospitality chairperson
Kim Fraley – Treasurer Stephanie Hawley – Box Top coordinator
Mrs. Vicki Booker – Principal Carrie Kober – Box Top coordinator
Mrs. Kristine Wolfe – Asst.Principal

The minutes were read from the November meeting and approved.

Treasurer’s report - Current balance $11,636.65. We also have a $938.00
check from Box Tops to add to that. Please note that $6,421.50 slated for
the play ground is also included in our current balance.

Teacher Wish List – In the November meeting the board decided on the
following wish list items to be granted, using the $500.00 we had budgeted.
	Dr Rob $75.00
Ms Mitchum $25.00 (to go towards her prize box)
Mrs. Shuping	$15.00 (Kleenex and baggies)
Ms Roar $200.00 (24” paper cutter)
Mrs. Fulk	$38.00	(electric pencil sharpener)
Mrs. Okula	$38.00 (electric pencil sharpener)
Mrs. Henley	$38.00 (electric pencil sharpener)
Ms Young	$50.00 (Large Eric Carl books)

Melissa recommended that next year more of the money go to the
regular classroom teachers instead of enhancement teachers.

Mrs. Wolf suggested that next year we give each grade level a
certain amount of money and they can work together to purchase
something that can be used by everyone in that grade.

Mrs. Booker talked about our need for technology and how she is
trying to update as much as possible with the addition of “smart
boards”, projectors, new computers, etc. and less programs. Mrs
Wolfe suggested that we should try for the Roberson Grant.

Playground –
Wendy suggested that we take the $500.00 we have slated for the
preschool playground and put it	towards technology, so it
        can serve more children.

Joanne reminded the board that this money has already been set aside
for the playground, the parents	have been informed of this, so this
money needs to be left alone. She also reminded the board that	the
desire was to connect the big playground with the preschool play-
ground so it can be used by more than just the pre-k.

Speakers for Classrooms –
The Board discussed the need for speakers in the classrooms to go
with the projectors. The teachers have complained that the
students cannot hear unless they are sitting right beside the lap-
top. Kim made a motion that we spend up to $600.00 to purchase
speakers for the classrooms to use with the projectors. The board
voted and it was a unanimous yes. Melissa will get information
together on the cost if they are bought in bulk and will go ahead
and place the order if it is under 600.00.

Agendas –
Melissa had met with the “Premier” Company Rep., and the cost for
725 agendas will be $3030.74. We are eligible for this price until
        Feb. 28 2009.

Membership –
Monica reported to Joanne that the State Office lost our request for
more membership cards and is suppose to be sending them.

Volunteers –
Stephanie reported that she is still looking for someone to work the
        clothes closet.

Box Tops –
Stephanie and Carrie reported that Granite just received a check for
$938.00 this is for Feb. 2008 to Oct. 2008.

Stephanie and Carrie talked about changing the homework passes to a
box top thank you with a piece of candy or small toy attached.
They will still have a drawing for a big prize for everyone who
participated. This decision was made due to the fact that
some teachers were not in favor of the homework passes and did not
hand them out. The new method will allow all of those who
participated to receive a thank you from the PTA.

Hospitality –
Sharon reported that the Honor Roll reception will be coming up in
Feb. and she will once again provide doughnuts, juice and coffee
to the children and their families.

We discussed the fact that we had budgeted 200.00 to be used to take
pictures at the reception that the students could then purchase.
This would serve as a small fundraiser for the PTA as well as a
memento for the student. The board decided to take this out of our
budget for this year and consider it again next year, in an
effort to get the students back into the classrooms as quickly
        as possible after the reception.

New Business –
	Golf Tournament Fundraiser –
Sharon Brown will be heading up our 1st Golf Tournament
Fundraiser. Joanne presented the board with the 2
possible dates as well as 2 possible courses for the
event to take place. McCanless Golf Course on Saturday,
                April 25th, 50 players - $24.00 a head or Corbin Hills Golf
Course on Saturday, March 28, 60 players –$25.00 a head.
The board voted, and decided to go with Corbin Hills on
                March 28th, 2009.

	Art by Me Fundraiser –
This fundraiser in which the children’s art will be for sale
on mugs, magnets, bags, etc… will take place before
                mother’s day.

Mrs. Booker thanked the PTA for all that they do for our school.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30.
Respectfully submitted,
Brenda Byrd, Secretary
