This Week's Spotlight Player: Dom DeLuca
Q: Explain your journey through New Prague to St. Patrick.
A: Well I originally signed with New Prague 2 years ago because both of my brothers played for them. I was used sparingly for a year and a half before a new coach and players were brought in, but lost in the shuffle of new players were my 2 brothers. One to injury and one to lack of drive to play anymore. Following their departure I was asked by Sue Ambroz if I was interested in St. Patrick and I said absolutely. After talking to (Luke) Hanzel and (Matt) Ambroz, I got on the roster and signed my contract.
Q: Which team is your favorite to play against in the DRS? Why?
A: Union Hill. As much as I respect them, there is just something about them I just don't like. Avoiding playing at Bonin, kicking good players off their team ( Bruder, Kyle Bergstrom), and not to mention I have friends who also play their which makes it even more competitive.Q: Tell us about " chopping wood."
A: Well the term chopping wood started with me and my buddies playing Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 for my ps3. Certain wrestlers that I would choose did not have the greatest of moves or ratings, so in order for me to be competitive with my opponents, I was forced to continuously punch/kick and do running move combinations to remain in the matches. The term "chopping wood" came about when I was working over a superior wrestler by not letting him stand up.
Q: Do you prefer to catch or is there somewhere else you prefer?
A: I used to love catching, but as the years have gone by my desire to catch has gone down significantly. As of right now I don't mind doing catching but playing 1st and being the DH are fine by me.Q: What is your favorite pregame meal?
A: Favorite pre-game meal is a powerade and grilled cheese.
Q: What do you listen to on the way to the ballpark?
A: Usually classic rock, but anything that isn't rap is fine by me.
Q: The division is tight, how do you see it playing out?
A: I think it will be close all season long. 4 solid teams in one division makes for a very very interesting finish to the season. In the end I believe our depth and talent will push us in to first but it will not be an easy task.Q: What are your 2008 goals individually, and for the team?
A: I didn't really have many individual goals coming into the season, but one was to just play everyday and contribute. Now as were getting through some games one of my goals is to lead the team in RBI and possibly BA... but neither will be possible if Pexa/Simon/Broz start playing every game.
Q: Analyze the American League East, since you are a Red Sox afficionado.
A: The American League is the best division in all of baseball. The Red Sox are the clear number one team. Beckett/DiceK/Lester/Buchholz/Colon/Wakefield, enough pitching? They are simply loaded and too talented not to make it back to the post season. Boasting the best lineup in all of baseball, with the fastest man in cleats (Jacoby Ellsbury) and the best 3-4 combo to ever grace Fenway with their presence. Big Papi and Manny are 2 future HOF'ers and are still raking in their mid 30s. Papelbon is the best their is at closing games, and they have plenty of young talent to call up if they need to. The Rays and Blue Jays will contend with solid pitching, but lack of experience by both teams will show down the stretch. The Yankees suck, plain and simple. A roster full of overpaid drama queens has no place in major league baseball. A-Rod is the definition of bush league, and Derek Jeter is the worst defensive SS in all of baseball. That being said, they will slug their way to 70-80 wins with no pitching what so ever. Final Standings:1. Boston2. Tampa Bay3. Toronto4. NYY
Q: Oh God, Why did I ask? Anything else you want to tell the fans?
A: I woke up in a cemetery last night, walked to Chocolate Malz' house, then walked all the way home, and got home at 3 or 4 am. Fun night though.
