I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a metropolitan city, where “the arts” are an
integral part of life. The Tulsa Public School System offered trips to
major
operas, off-broadway productions and musical concerts featuring celebrated
artists. We attended these productions during school hours, providing a
more
cultural education by creating knowledge of fine arts.
I was fortunate to have a mother, who wanted me to learn all the things she
was denied as a child. I was given every type of lesson afforded only
wealthy children. My mother sacrificed to give me expensive lessons from the
best instructors.
I began taking dance lessons at the age of three and have continued to dance
throughout my adulthood. I instructed for several years at Applause, Inc.
in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I danced in the Red Glove Revue, (a large charity
event in Tulsa) for 8 years, and I attended dance conventions in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
I studied piano and voice from Mary Stuart Williams for 16+ years in Tulsa.
Mrs. Williams and her husband performed in vaudeville and on broadway for
many years in New York City until Mr. Williams suffered a debilitating
stroke
and they were forced to retire. They retired to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Mrs.
Williams gave piano and voice lessons. Mrs. Williams was active in local
television and played the piano with the symphony and Tulsa Theatre. She
was
a prominent local figure in Tulsa for 40+ years and I consider it a
privilege
to have studied and performed under her superb instruction.
I studied speech with world renowned Isabel Ronan, Miss Ronan was another
prominent figure in the arts community in Tulsa. She instructed noted
stars,
such as Tony Randall and Paul Harvey. Miss Ronan is written up on the
internet if you would like to read about her life.
I studied music at the University of Tulsa, where I sang in the women’s
chorus and minored in English. I modeled for Charm, Inc. throughout high
school and college and was featured in the newspaper, in magazines and at
many local events.
I won many pageants and talent contests where my piano, dance, speech and
voice were used. Up until I moved here 8 years ago, I performed in Tulsa
regularly. This is a short synopsis of some of my qualifications. It is
not
a complete list of my accomplishments, but it will give you an idea of some
of the things I have done with music and speech in my life.
I take teaching seriously, but I also want my students to have fun while
learning. I would like to instill responsibility and confidence in my
students. I hope to have a great relationship with my students and also
build a deep respect for their art.
