That depends on you and your desire.  I have had students that could play most things they wanted to after 1 year of lessons and some others that are still in a Level One book after 2 years.

          I wonder why there is so much difference?  Answer: PRACTICE AND DESIRE!!!

         Now, there are people who read this and say that talent is needed, too.  Of course it is.  But talent isn’t always only something you are born with.  A person can develop a talent!

          Ask if your mother had a talent for cooking when she was born.  I’ll bet she didn’t (sounds silly, doesn’t it?)  She developed a talent for cooking by doing it over and over and learning from her mistakes.

         So, if you really have a desire to play well, change your life or move your schedule around so you have enough time to develop that skill or talent.  Do it over and over and learn from your mistakes! No one can do anything well in a short time if he only spends 30 minutes a week on it!  Oh yes!  There are students that only practice 30 minutes a week and it takes them forever! to get through one book.
