DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR HANDS!I HAVE TO LOOK AT MY HANDS! One of my students had a habit of always looking at his hands while he was playing. He would look up at his music and see a “C” and a “D”. Then he would bend his head down and look right at the keyboard and play that “C” and “D”. This went on all the way through the song. It took him a long time to play that song! I placed a towel over his hands. He struggled, but he finally finished and said, “ please don’t cover my hands again.” In 2 weeks, he came to his lesson and said, “Could you cover my hands again? I think I can do that better now.” He made me very happy. From that time on, he played better and better! He also asked me to cover his hands many times after that. I think by that time it was really just a game, don’t you? LESSON TIME: Ask someone in your family to do the same thing for you. It will bother you at first, but then you will be able to play better and better when you don’t have to take time to always look at your hands which should probably always stay in the same place on the piano anyway. |
