DO I HAVE TO PRACTICE?

DO I HAVE TO PRACTICE?

Of course not!  When was the last time your parents tied you to the piano bench?  I’m kidding!

Let’s think about this.  If your parents bought the piano or keyboard, I’ll bet it cost a lot of money.  Are they paying for your piano lessons – or are you?  Let’s assume they had to work a lot of hours to pay for all of this.

It is hard to practice when you are learning all these new things at once (and those little songs do sound kind of silly).  How about this?…if you practice more, you will soon be able to play better sounding music.

Remember when you got your skate board – or bike or scooter?  The first time you got on it, you could do all those tricks – right?  Oh, come on!  You’re not telling me you didn't have to practice a little bit?

Students who play well in a short time practice more than a half an hour a day.  You don’t really have to keep track of how long you are practicing as long as you have learned something while you are practicing and it sounds better than it did the last time. Very young children can only concentrate for about 15 minutes, but from the 7 or 8 and up they can practice 30 to 45 minutes easily.

Each time it will sound better and better!  (Practicing every day might be a good idea, right?)

THIS IS A GREAT ARTICLE, BUT I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT PRACTICING IS MANDATORY, NOT OPTIONAL. EVERY STUDENT MUST HAVE AN INSTRUMENT SO THAT THEY MAY PRACTICE DAILY. STUDENTS THAT DO NOT PRACTICE CONSISTENTLY WILL BE DISMISSED!
