To sign-up online, please contact Mrs. Dale. She will add your name to the sign-in sheet. To cancel, contact both Mrs. Dale and the appropriate contact person at least 48 hours in advance. You may also find a replacement for yourself, but please let everyone know that the person is replacing you!
Reminder: You must let either Mrs. Dale or Mrs. Starodub know if you plan to work an event by either signing up for the event at a Las Ninas meeting or by contacting us. We do not follow up on volunteer opportunities when we do not have any girls signed up!
It is your responsibility to request a specific shift time when appropriate!
Saturday, August 16, 2008: Health Fair-ExxonMobil Refinery in Torrance. Helpers are needed to work the booth hosted by South Bay Children’s Health Center. Volunteers will help run the booth and hand out bags stuffed with information and toothbrushes! The refinery is located @3700 W. 190th Street in Torrance. The Open House is in Pegasus Park (big red flying horse and parking lot right next to it). Check in at gate with ExxonMobil personnel and ask for South Bay Children’s Health Center Booth location, then ask forTina Harris or Hilda Amaya. Lunch will be provided for you. Thursday, August 21-Sunday, August 24, 2008: Curtains Up! Production of ‘Annie’-Located at Palos Verdes High School MPR, 600 Cloyden Road, Palos Verdes Estates. Volunteers are needed in the lobby to help with concessions, to be runners and ticket-takers, etc. Dates are: Thursday, August 21 @ 6:15pm; Friday, August 22 @6:15pm; Saturday, August 23 @1:15pm; Saturday, August 23 @6:15pm, and Sunday, August 24 @1:15pm. Each show will run approx. 2 hours. Shift Times: minimum 3 hour shifts each/ from start time listed. (ex. 6:15pm-9:15pm) Dress Code: Wear black shirt, black pants, black (dark) comfortable shoes (no flip-flops). To sign up you will need to contact Jennifer King. Held at Dockweiler State Beach, Playa Del Rey – at the end of Imperial Hwy, West. Volunteers will be manning the water stations, registration, t-shirt handout, food and beverages. Helpers are needed to take tickets, assist in booths and help run games! Volunteer Times: 8:00am-4:00pm (this includes set-up and break-down) minimum 2 hour shifts and you can work longer! This is a school day, so please only sign up to help if you are completed with classes by noon. Girls will be assisting with checkout, carrying items to cars, clean up and take down, etc. These hours might be off-site hospital rather than community service - details to follow! LAS NINAS SUMMER CAMPS INFO 2008:
Camp Escapades: (Required orientation meeting July 26 at Seaside Elementary school from 10-1. This is for new and returning volunteers) Tentative camp set up (which you can volunteer for) will take place the week of July 28th. The actual camp dates will be the following 3 weeks in August at Seaside Elementary School 4651 Sharynne Ln. in Torrance. Register online at the end of April at www.campescapades.com or www.pediatrictherapynetwork.org. Follow links to the volunteer registration. Montessori Camp Rancho Palos Verdes: June 23 through August 15. Monday thru Friday, sign up for a minimum of one week. Shifts are 9am -12noon and/or 12noon-3pm. Montessori Camp is at 3100 Hawthorne Blvd. in RPV (Golden Cove). Contact person: Carol Hagen at 544-3099. They have a strict dress code!! No short shorts, tank tops or midriffs, and ideally close toed shoes or sandals with a heel strap.

PV Art Center: Help out the summer campers with their creative projects! Contact Angela Hoffman to get an application. Once she has received it and the application is accepted, Angela will contact you about available dates and times. Sunrise Early Childhood Center Camp: Assist teachers at this summer camp. Camp dates are Monday-Friday, June 23 to July 25. Must work a consistent schedule for full five weeks, ex: one hour same day each week OR one full day same day each week OR more, but must be same day/s and hour/s each week. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Summer Exhibit Hall Docent Program: One week of mandatory training is followed by four weeks of service, one or two mornings a week, providing one hour tours, talks and demonstrations in the CMA exhibit hall during a four-week period. Training and activities relating to Southern California tide pools, beaches, kelp forest, islands, open ocean and touring techniques are included. Two sessions are offered: Juniors (students entering 7 - 9th grade in the fall) volunteer June 23 through August 1. Seniors (students entering 10 - 12th grade in the fall) volunteer July 28 through August 29. Cost of the program is $75.00 (includes name badge, shirt and field trips). 60 students will be accepted into each session. Financial aid is available. Download applications at www.cabrilloaq.org.
