Posted Monday October 22- Explorers Andrew Har, Michael Pitts, Taylor
Ribinson, and Michael Scanland attended our department's firearms training on
Saturday, October 20. Each Explorer had an opportunity to fire a police
pistol and a military M-16 assault rifle. The rifle, with full auto
capability, or "machine gun" capability, was a great experience for them.

Thursday July 12 Michael Pitts attended the Explorer Academy hosted by the
Mobile Police Department. He received trophies for the Physical Agility
Award, the Firearms Award, and Most Outstanding Explorer. It sounds like it
was a great academy and we need to try to get some more of our crew to attend
next year.

Congratulations to Explorers Andrew Har and Brady McLaughlin on receiving the
Presidential Gold Award for Volunteer Service.

The calendar page on this web site recently deleted all 2005 entries and made
them all 2007 entries by default. I am working on updating it.

These officers are certified to have Explorers as a ride-along: 122 Davis,
119 Johnson, 121 Gilheart, 115 Murray, 131 Scott, 134 Taylor, 116 Hamrick,
120 Hewitt, 138 Maye.

These Explorers have passed a written test and are certified to ride: E-11
and E-12.

If you are an Explorer age 16 or older, and you want to ride, ask me. You
need to pass a test on our radio codes and our policies before you can
ride.
You also must attend meetings regularly and participate in events to earn
service hours.

Remember, the radio room is not a hang-out. The only reason you should be
in there is to work or to sign the log book.

The Fairhope Police Department's Law Enforcement Explorer Post is running
strong. As of November 2007, we have completed third full year as a
chartered post. We meet at the P.D. twice a month to learn about police
work. We have some great ideas for training and activities. We have our
own uniforms and our next goal is raising money to buy some equipment for
tactical training. If you are interested, ask one of us for more info.
The program is open to both males and females from age 15 to 21. You can
join at age 14 if you have completed the 8th grade. Meetings are from 6:00
pm until about 7:30 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. We
meet in the police department's classroom. The department is at 107 N.
Section Street in Fairhope next to city hall. The cost is $7.00 per year.
If you would like more info, please e-mail Sgt. Craig Sawyer at
Craig.Sawyer@cofairhope.com and I will help you out.
